couch potato meets gratitude (is this trauma?.....)

lisapedersenla

The light sat in the corner of your living room. It had a tall arm for a stand that housed the hood which housed the light itself. It sat there in the corner for years right next to you, as you draped yourself onto the red couch watching it. Both knew you all too well; with your feet up and balanced in a such a way you could zone out for hours on the kaleidoscope of colors illuminating from this inanimate object. There was that one day, however, when your perspective changed. You looked at the lamp in a different way; you pictured it’s light as the sun’s rays warming you. That’s all it took to wake up and get on with the practice of living. For that one special moment in time, you imagined each ray hugging your body, with the words, “It’s okay, it’s alright” smiling downward. These were different than the ones that screamed at you nightly, sometimes keeping you awake until the sun came up the very next day. When you lay on that couch now you look at that lamp and thank it for watching over you in a way that only a light can do. When you open a book or journal readying to write, you now know that it will be there as you see each word on the page or bring your pen to paper. This light comforts you and you’re no longer afraid of yourself and your inner voice. Each night your routine is to sit on that couch, and turn on that light. You look forward to your time together and trust that when the light leaves for the day to the morning and afternoon natural sunshine, you know in your heart of hearts that it will be there again and again come nighttime. Until next time, sweet lamp. Until next time….
